Description
Alabama 48 | Auburn 21
Bama quarterback Jeff Rutledge played an outstanding game. Rutledge ended the 1977 season with 1,518 rushing and passing yards — the second best in Bama history, succeeding big names like Ken Stabler and Joe Namath. Coach Bryant said, “I think the game was won up front, in the trenches. I think our lines dominated the game — the offense in the second half and the defense all day. The kicking game was the most costly thing against us — I’ll put it another way: they had a better game than us.”
All-American Ozzie Newsome (#82) receives a pass from QB Jeff Rutledge (not pictured).
